[NRVR-Members] Next launch is Sept 28

Wade,

We don’t need anymore clubs. We already have 4 or 5 amateur rocketry clubs Rocketry at VT, OLVT, inVenTs Rocketry, NASA SLI, …. My preference would be to collapse all of them down to one club, and have separate “mission teams”, one of which would be to gain experience and certifications before moving on to bigger complex rockets.

What I suggested was to focus the large enthusiasm in Rocketry at VT towards building/flying/certification within the framework of Rocketry at VT. No new clubs, please.

Dr. Paterson

We can send some people to a meeting to discuss on Thursday if it's at or after 7 PM. As for launch dates, October might be a little optimistic for members to have their rockets completed by, as our first general body meeting will be next week.

Especially with the opening of the new Advanced Project Works (aka VT Rocket Shop). There will be opportunities for NRVR to assist with teaching of experiential learning classes on basic and advanced rocket building skills. Also, the November launch date is the 1st Saturday of Thanksgiving break which means that students will largely be gone. There is also no date scheduled in December.

>>> Conditions across Virginia are between dry and very dry. Sparky motors may be banned unless we get some rain or a way to wet down areas around the pads.
>>> We will not have a rocket motor vendor at this launch
>>> Set up begins at 9:00 and all help is welcomed
>>> If you or someone you know is bring a group of more than 4 (except the Hoovers) please let us know in advance at officers(at)nrvr.org <http://nrvr.org/>
>>> If you plan to certify with TRA or NAR, please notify officers(at)nrvr.org <http://nrvr.org/>

>>> We have not decided if we are going to hold a meeting on Thursday Sept. 26. If you are interested in presenting or attending, let the officers know.
>>> Thinking ahead to October I have been thinking about some kind of fun competition I’m calling OMG launch (oh my gourd). Simple closest to the target competition.
>>> 4” diameter and up must launch with a mini pumpkin. The mini pumpkin must recover with a parachute. Non-deployment or loss of chute is disqualified. Gourd does not need to deploy at apogee.
>>> Smaller diameter rockets must carry a Candy Corn pumpkin which must be recovered with a streamer.
>>> Smallest model rockets will carry a Candy Corn which must be recovered with a streamer.
>>>
>>> Prizes are still TBD, but at a minimum will be a rocket or something cool. Let me know if you have any ideas or donations.
>>> Also considering a night launch in October. Sunset is 6:30 on the date of our October launch 10/26.
>>>
>>> TARC teams – the clock is ticking. If you are interested in TARC competition you should be finishing up your rocket design and doing test flights to see how your simulations compare to actual altitudes. Many teams don’t launch before Thanksgiving and then hope to launch in January, February or March. Even in April the weather is unpredictable and your launch opportunities could be limited. If you need help getting started, let one of us know. There are many experienced people who would be happy to help answer your questions and give advice.
>>>
>>> Keep the pointy end up and the fiery end down.
>>> Hope to see you at a launch soon.
